Swap option exists.
Winner is whoever makes a connected group that either
   (a) includes two nearly-opposite edge-points; or
   (b) includes three edge-points whose inter-point distances
                     are all less than half the circumference.

This is very much like Gaia, described in Cameron Browne's book on connection games. The only difference is that Gaia is played on half of a geodesic sphere made up of hexagons and a few pentagons.

I'll check Gaia on Cam's book.

It seems that in the last decade or so, connections games exploded on every possible direction in the minds of many people.
